What is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of increasing a website traffic by increasing the visibility of a website to searchers. In other words, the process of making more people find your website or business on the internet.
Basically there are two types of SEO namely On-site SEO & Paid SEO.O SEO is about integrating SEO into your website content and structure while Paid SEO is about promoting your website using SEO platforms/tools (Google AdWords,Yoast SEO etc).
Before we jump into SEO best practices of improving your SEO, take note of the following:

- Without content SEO is worthless (SEO is all about promoting content)

- Use a concise page title with your target keyword
Your page title is one the most important places to input for your target keyword. Website’s page title is the first thing Search Engine sees when it reads your web pages. It describes what a website is about. Your page title should be unique and be able draw the attention search users.
e.g. let’s say your business offer Day Care Services. Your page title could be “Day Care Services in Lekki Lagos”. This title let’s search users immediately know what your website offers.
- Meta Description
Your Meta Description can be say ato be a short description about products & services. A Meta description is used by search engine to judge what the page is about but and should entice search users to visit your website.
- Using your keyword in Headings.
Using the right heading helps reader understand your website content structure. It helps readers to easily navigate through different sections of your website content. Also it is advisable to include your target keyword to your content heading. There are 6 heading (h1, h2…h6). However (h1) is the most important and are usually used for your page’s title. You should use the right heading where necessary.
- Image name (Alt tags)
Proper use Alt tags is a vital element you can’t ignore. Naming images help search engine understand what an image is all about. Your Alt tags should be descriptive. Let’s say you have an image “iPhone 11” on your website, your image name should be ( iPhone 11) and not DSC0100 or image000023.
- Make your Website Mobile Responsive.
As the number of mobile users increases, your website needs to be adaptive to any device (desktop, laptop, tablet and mobile phone). As mobile search continuing to grow and search engine like Google favoring mobile-friendly websites than static website. Website visitors tends to leave a website that are not adaptive to their device and you will be losing customers if your website is not responsive.
- Promote your website
With the application of the above listed practices, your website should be search engine friendly, however you may need to promote your website for maximum performance. This is where Google AdWords,Yoaat SEO etc comes in. Also don’t ignore the importance of social media. Also add social media marketing to your budget.
